Art is a very broad area of ​​research. Often, art is defined as a means of self-expression. Art not only widely accepts a definition. There are several definitions of art. Some of these definitions are:

• It is a means of expressing ideas through painting, painting, and sculpture.

  • This is a person who provides order and form for organized ideas to showcase any new creations.

  • This is a way of life and an integral part of life.

  • Guided by design principles, produce items with visual tools such as lines, colors, textures, etc. to meet the aesthetic and functional needs of individuals and society.

  • It refers to the product of human creativity.

  • This is a means of self-expression.

Art is roughly divided into two types. These are I] humanities and ii] creative arts

i] Humanities are studies that aim to provide general knowledge and knowledge, such as law, literature, government, etc. It is often referred to as the humanities because it is a humanities discipline that addresses social life issues.

Ii] Creative art refers to the art of creativity in the production of artifacts that help us carry out our daily activities. Unlike liberal arts, creative arts provide learners with natural employment or practical skills. As far as the study of visual art is concerned, it is the focus of attention.

It should be noted that when the term "art" is mentioned in the field of visual arts education, we are actually talking about creative art. It is divided into two main branches, namely a] visual art and b] performing arts.

visual art

This reflects all creative or artistic products that have visual perception [optical sensation – eyes], touch [skin] and can evoke emotions. Therefore, any creative product that you can see, touch and evoke your emotions can be said to be a form of visual art. Let's take a drawing on a piece of paper as an example. Because people can see the painting with their eyes and can touch it, and the same paintings produce emotional feelings among the people who see it, we can firmly believe that painting is a form of visual art.

Visual art is sometimes referred to as plastic art or solid art because of their practical nature. It is divided into two groups. These are fine arts and crafts.

• Produce fine art as a form of interior and exterior decoration for homes, offices, etc. They are specifically designed to meet the aesthetic drive of the audience. Because of this, the aesthetic qualities of works in this field have been emphasized or emphasized in their creations. Although these art may play other roles, it should be noted that their main function is decoration. Examples include painting, graphic design, photo production and sculpture.

• Industrial art, also known as applied art, refers to paying more attention to the function or use of art products than to their aesthetic value. They are created to meet the practical needs of individuals in performing their duties in their daily lives. They are purely usable art forms. Examples include textiles, leather goods, ceramics, pottery and jewelry.

Performance art

These are all perceived by the sense of sight and movement [kinesthesia]. They are executed or played. They have been seen for a while. Examples include music, dance and drama. One aspect of performing arts is oral art, which is a performance that communicates with words and body postures. They include poetry, spells, recitations, etc.

The difference between visual art and performing arts lies in their unique characteristics. First, let's talk about visual art.

These art attracts our visual experience and can be felt through our touch.
