Do Not Panic Over A Panic Attack

2019-09-20 Health Comment 2

Nothing is worse then feeling that you are not in control of things affecting your life. The feeling is much worse when it is your own body that you can not control, such as when you are having a panic attack. The following article will help you to deal with issues associated with panic attacks and help you get in control.

To help you get through a panic attack it’s important to work on your breathing technique. Grab a paper bag or cup your hands and then breathe slowly in and out while covering your mouth. This will help you relax and your panic attack should pass and end very quickly.

Alcohol and drug use can cause panic attacks. If you want to overcome your panic and anxiety, it is important that you try to avoid drug and alcohol usage. If you follow this tip, you will be on your way to a healthier and happier you, not to mention less anxious.

Join online panic attack support groups to find people just like you who are going through the same situation. Often they’ll share all sorts of ideas that you can be confident will work because the people posting them are living proof. So, it’s a great piece of information to help you get through the worst of times.

No matter how much a panic attack makes you want to run and hide, DON’T. Stand up to your fear and stay right where you are. Once you realize that every time you don’t run nothing happens your brain will start to figure out that the fear thing isn’t working, and it won’t be able to take you over anymore.

Create your own panic attack mantra to help you get over the feelings of fear. “I am an amazing person who can deal with everything!” is mine. I like that it’s short, easy to say, and I can really get into the feeling of it. Create your own and repeat it out loud to beat that attack!

In the middle of a panic attack, visualize a peaceful scene. It may be hard to do this at first, but with a little practice you will be able to ride out a panic attack by visualizing a peaceful place and allowing yourself to relax until the panic attack subsides.

Understand a panic attack. When you better understand a panic attack and the symptoms, the better you will be able to cope with it. The simple answer is – you cause it. Anxiety causes strange body symptoms, and a person reacts to those symptoms by becoming more and more anxious. You can become so overwhelmed that it causes a full blown panic attack. By addressing the initial anxiety and understanding what is happening, you can take control and avoid getting to the point of a panic attack.

If you have had a panic attack before, it is important not to dwell on the feelings from that attack. While these attacks are admittedly unsettling, thinking about an attack can cause some people to have another one. If you are having anxiety from a panic attack, treat those thoughts the same way you would the attack itself and practice some relaxation techniques like deep breathing.

It does not matter if you are in a safe place or not, you are the same person no matter where you happen to be. Fight the urge to flee, and look for something in your surroundings that will help comfort you. It could be your partner or an inanimate object like the shopping cart at the grocery store.

Just because you’re having a panic attack doesn’t mean you can’t go about your day as normal. Literally ignore the attack and follow the routine you’ve planned for the day. That doesn’t mean you should pretend you’re not having an attack, just stop it from ruling your life and get on with things!

If you feel a panic attack coming on, get busy. Find something else to occupy your mind like a chore or a hobby and keep going until you forget that you were having a panic attack at all. You’ll be able to work past the anxiety with something enjoyable or with a pleasurable outcome.

Consider buying self-help CDs for your car to keep anxiety and panic attacks away. You can also try calming music, just ensure that you’re paying as much attention to the road as you are to what you’re listening to, and that you don’t end up with road hypnosis while you drive!

Do you know how to drive? Do you have a safe track record? Then why would driving give you a panic attack? Look at your driving habits, your knowledge and how hard you work on driving well. Take all of these into consideration and then understand that you are a good, safe driver, and that there is nothing to fear.

Focus on something that you have control over. If you find yourself in the midst of a panic attack, separate your mind from the situation. Focus on something that you can control – think about your family members, think about something funny that has happened to you recently, plan tonight’s meal in your mind – anything that will prevent you from thinking about the panic that you are feeling. Quite often you will find that this reduces the length of the attack.

Be thankful for your panic attacks! They give you a great opportunity to use the energy they build up to get something accomplished, like finishing a chore or repair around the house. Take the time to do something you enjoy like playing a sport or a video game. Make a panic attack a positive situation and you’ll end up looking forward to them!

As you can see, there are things that you can do to help you with your panic attacks. Do not let them get the best of you. So put these tips into practice and decrease the impact that panic attacks have on your life. You deserve to live a life without the fear of a panic attack!

In order to control the number and intensity of your panic attacks it is important to share your feelings rather than keeping them bottled up inside. Talk to someone if they upset you as the stress from worrying about the situation can cause a panic attack.
