Don't let these roofs have these common mistakes

There is no doubt that the use of EPDM roofing membranes is amazing. It is affordable, can be installed in a short period of time, and is durable. This is a great opportunity to take some precautions and get results. However, people need to avoid mistakes in order to get the most value out of them.

Don't wait

Everyone is busy, but you should not postpone the installation of EPDM roofing membranes. Don't wait for roof problems or find leaks. Damage has been done and often goes far beyond what you see. This may mean that your structure is vulnerable and will cause future problems due to spiraling down.

Instead, the EPDM roofing membrane is placed in place as a source of prevention. This will give you an extra layer of protection. Bad weather, including high-speed winds, won't make you nervous. Instead, when you say everything, you will have the confidence that your roof will remain in good shape.

Prepare your roof

Although you can get enough overall value from the EPDM roofing membrane, it is not as effective as the magic. You must take the time to properly inspect and prepare your roof to handle any problems that already exist. Don't ignore them, just hope that the best, otherwise you will eventually have to finish the work. However, you also waste those materials.

Any loose debris needs to be brushed off the roof. If any material can cause the material to rise anywhere, the material cannot be leveled. Even small pebbles that might be blown up there can cause problems.

Edge flashing

If you don't have a good edge flash, you can reduce the protection provided by the EPDM roofing membrane. If you don't know how to handle this type of work yourself, hire someone to look at it and give you an estimate. It requires good quality results.

A common mistake is that the edge flash is placed on top of the new rubber and then held in place with nails or glue. The correct way is to place it under the EPDM roofing membrane. This allows the rubber to extend approximately one inch from the roof and extend toward the groove.

wrinkle

If you see any signs of wrinkles, do not hold the material in place. For best results, the material needs to be smooth and flat. Any wrinkles will shorten the life and the protection that the material provides. This is especially true if those wrinkles happen to be anywhere near the edge of the rubber.

Hold it in place

You can choose to use a nail or glue to hold the material in place. If you use nails, make sure they are designed for this type of material. You also need to make sure they are long enough to hold the material in place. If they are too short, it won't provide much security. If you choose to use glue, be sure to get a quality product approved for use in this type of project, otherwise it will not stay.

The bonding process does take some time, so it is best to use bricks or other items to press down the material. Let them sit there for the rest of the day and then remove them. Double check all seams and fix anything you might have missed.
