If you aren’t tough, football is not the game for you. Honestly, if you can’t handle being tackled, you should play tennis or golf or some other non-contact sport. Don’t play the game because your Father wants you to if you really don’t want to get thrown to the ground.

As you go onto the field, be prepared to win. Don’t settle for anything less and keep that in mind as you play. If you are positive and focused on winning the game, you’re more likely to reach your goals. If you have any misgivings in your mind, you will fail.

If you try a new trick when you are playing football and it turns out well, avoid using it too often. Though it can be tempting to utilize this new strategy often, opponents will easily learn to anticipate what you are going to do and counter it.

Record your gameplay. Football is all about plays and patterns, so you need a way to watch how you specifically did out on the field. Was your pattern off? Was the quarterback expecting you in a different locale all together? Did you come up too short on your turn-around? When you can see it, you can change it much more easily.

Take every chance you can to study football footage, but when you can, study footage of yourself. Try and see yourself through an opponent’s eyes. Look for tells or signs of what you are about to do, as well as habits you have that are predictable. Always have a way to keep your opponent guessing.

Educate yourself on the game. Learn everything you can about football on and off the field. Look back at the history of the sport, and learn more about the greats. When you understand all the ins and outs of the game, you will become a better player both mentally and physically.

You need to become acclimated to high temperatures over a period of time. Do not try to do a full workout in the first hot day of spring. It can take up to two weeks for your body to adjust to the change in temperature. Take it slow and be safe.

Have an indoor exercise regimen that you can do anytime. Include push-ups, sit-ups and anything else you do to work on stamina anytime. This will let you get some physical activity every morning and evening. It also makes for a good backup plan to workout when the weather outside is unfriendly or you do not have access to a field or weight room.

If you play football, you should workout outside of your football practice. Having a strong body can not only help you play better, but it can also keep you safe when you play. Take part in workouts that strengthen your entire body and that can help you when you play football.

Learning to block when you have the ball is essential to scoring points. You cannot grab hold of the defender’s jersey while blocking. To help ensure you do not get a call of holding, always keep your hands off of the defender by only using your forearms during a block.

Shoulder pads truly protect you. You have to be sure your shoulder pads fit correctly before you begin playing. Shoulder pads should remain in place and be in working condition. The last thing you want is your shoulder pads to malfunction during the game which can lead to a bad injury.

Send out a DVD highlighting your performance to any colleges that you would like to attend. Be sure to apply to many different schools within the level you want to play at. Your first choice may not recruit you to play for them, so you need to have options.

Continually build up your endurance. If you have the ability to run around without losing your breath, you will be valuable to any team. In the event that you do get short of breath, you should try taking slower, deeper breaths. This will allow you to recover and return to the playing field.

Practice whenever you can, even if it’s by yourself. You don’t need to be around your team to get a good practice session in. While it’s helpful, it’s definitely not necessary. You can practice sprinting, agility moves, your patterns, and even catching by throwing the ball high into the air.

If you are trying to run the clock down, keep running. The game clock does not stop even when you are tackled, and this allows you to use up some time. You have to keep making first downs, of course, but it will work in the end.

Playing on a football team will build relationships that can last a lifetime. Foster these relationships and learn from your experience on the field and off the field. Football teaches many valuable life lessons. Learn from them and use them in your life to become a healthy and happy adult.
