Everything You Ought To Know About Cooking

Cooking is a process that we are never finished learning about. Even the most accomplished world famous chefs will still take a chance to learn a new trick from a colleague. In this article we will try to give you a few highlights of some useful cooking information.

If you are making a sandwich and adding mayonnaise, make sure that you spread the mayo from corner to corner to give you the ultimate coverage and a delicious taste in every bite. Each and every bite that you take should be outstanding, as spreading mayo will achieve this goal when you eat sandwiches.

One of the things that you should spend a lot of money on, is your kitchen utensils, pots and pans, and other equipment. These are extremely valuable investments as they will serve as the foundation for all of your cooking. You will want to extend the life of these tools as long as possible. Cooking is so much easier if you are using high quality utensils and equipment.

Save time by cooking large quantities, and freezing the extra. When you are planning an elaborate or time consuming meal, prepare extra servings. Making more won’t increase your cooking time much, and these extra meals can be frozen, providing a fast and healthy alternative to the typical frozen TV dinner.

You can save a lot of money by buying potatoes for your favorite dishes in larger quantities. Make sure you store them in a cool dark place (preferably in a root cellar). Place them in a crate loosely and keep the storage temperature between 45 and 50 degrees F. Avoid storing them in the refrigerator as they become sweet.

Cook pasta for one minute less than instructed on the box and then place the pasta in a sauce pan. By making pasta this way, the sauce will absorb into the pasta and the overall quality of your meal will be better. You can even add some spices into the saucepan.

It is important to know that just because a recipe does not call for a certain spice does not mean you cannot add it. For instance, you may feel that garlic would make the dish taste better, which may be true. So do not be scared, go ahead and add it.

You need to remember to poke holes in a pie crust before you put it into the oven. A pie crust made from scratch can be very delicious, but if tiny holes are not poked with a fork, it will cause the crust to bubble in places which can make it difficult to fill with yummy ingredients.

Plan your meals in advance. One of the biggest time wasters is engaging in the “what am I going to fix for dinner?” debate. Often, we could have dinner on the table by the time we fuss with examining the options. Over the weekend – or whenever your free time occurs – think through the upcoming week and loosely plan four or five meals you know your family will enjoy. This advance planning allows you the time to stock your fridge and pantry with the items you need.

If you are preparing macaroni and cheese dishes, you must always closely follow the directions on the recipe. The macaroni turns out perfect this way and is to die for once the nice velvety cheese is melted over the noodles. To serve the delectable macaroni and cheese, using a spoon with a solid face is just the right choice. Try sprinkling some pepper on the finished macaroni dish.

If you are sauteing vegetables and require more oil, add the oil to the outer part of the pan. This way the oil is heated by the time it reaches your vegetables. By doing this you eliminate extra cooking time and you never have to worry about your vegetables getting soggy or getting splattering hot oil.

Start your sear in a cold pan when searing duck breasts. Duck can turn very dry very quickly if not properly cooked. Using the cold pan technique for searing allows the fat to render slowly which will keep your duck moist and juicy. It will also give you more time to develop flavors and take care of some side dishes.

When you are deep frying foods, try not to fry too much food at once. Overcrowding the deep fryer, will cause the oil temperature to drop and the food will not be as crispy. The key to successful deep frying is to keep enough oil around the foods to keep up the temperature.

When you are cooking with garlic and you do not want to deal with the smell on your hands, cutting board, or utensils, follow this tip. Take a thicker plastic bag and smash the garlic inside of the bag. You can then just simply dump the garlic into the pan!

Try making stir fry. Stir fry is the perfect dish for inexperienced cooks – or for anyone who just wants to make something quick. Stir fry is simple to make. It isn’t even necessary to follow the recipe. If you mess up while making stir fry, you can almost always fix your mistake without losing anything.

To keep foods crispy in the oven, use a wire rack on top of your baking sheet. If your oven “fried” chicken strips or other breaded items, tend to come out soggy on the bottom, try placing them on a wire rack in the oven. This allows air to circulate on all sides of the food and to bake evenly for a nice crunch.

When pressing sticky ingredients into a pan, such as marshmallow treats or cheesy casseroles, coat the back of a spoon with non-stick cooking spray before using it. This prevents the goo from sticking to the spoon and makes it possible to evenly smooth the food into the pan. You can reapply spray as needed.

These tips haven’t come close to covering everything you could learn regarding cooking. There is a wealth of information out there just waiting to be discovered. One of the best things about cooking is that the more you learn about it, the more you want to learn. So get out there and get cooking.

When you are planning to use skewers for your cooking, always soak wooden skewers for at least thirty minutes in water prior to use. This will prevent them from burning while you are cooking. Keep food from falling off of your skewers by using two parallel instead of a single skewer.

When cooking with oil, use coconut oil whenever possible. It is one of the most heat stable oils and very well-suited for high temperature cooking and frying. It is very slow to oxidize and won’t go rancid as quickly as other oils. It has a high smoke point of 280 degrees fahrenheit.

Rice is a great carbohydrate and very inexpensive. Pasta and bread are three times as much per pound than rice. Investing in a rice cooker is well worth it. Use rice as you would orzo or other short pastas.

For an improvement to your pasta sauce, save some of your water from cooking the pasta. Take about a quarter cup of the water and set aside. When you are ready to mix your sauce and pasta together, incorporate some of this water. The starch from the pasta water will add body and a “creaminess” to your sauce through amalgamation.

When browning meat of any kind, use a paper towel to blot dry the surface of the meat. This will prevent it from releasing moisture as it meets the hot oil. A lot of moisture can cause the meat to steam rather than sear, and you won’t get that flavorful, rich crust.
