Focus On The Goal!
Business always has and always will be about results. That is the goal to produce the best result possible whether we are developing a new product, launching a new service, or training new employees. It doesn’t matter what it is we are trying to accomplish we are still striving to achieve the best result possible. This can become awfully difficult when you own a small business though. Whereas a manager within a business will have a few tasks that they must concentrate on a small business owner has a whole host of tasks that need attention. And that is how you lose your focus.
As a small business owner it can be even more important to become goal oriented. If you can learn to focus on the goal then you can begin to block out the rest of the clutter until you have achieved whatever it is that you wanted to accomplish. It will help you avoid information overload. Let’s say for example you’ve decided to put together a new marketing program. Well of course there are many different ways to handle your marketing. But if you first create a marketing plan and then actually stick to it you may see the results you are looking for.
Let’s say you are in the process of launching a website and need to know how to advertise it. Well it is already known that there are way too many things to learn and try when it comes to marketing a website. You’ll die of old age before you could test every possible way to market on the internet. Or else you’ll just go broke trying. It’s better to spend a few dollars early on programs you trust and then develop your plan. But once you implement that plan you have to stick to it. It may or may not work but you won’t know either way if you diverge onto different paths in the middle of it.
If you are expanding a product line for your business then you need to be focused on that aspect of your business. Otherwise you might develop a product that is only half as good as it should be. Too often small business owners spread themselves to thin. You can’t do everything within your business. Even if you are a one man show it will become impossible to keep up. Eventually both you and your business will suffer.
Focus on the goal. Whatever that goal may be. Stay focused on it. If you have two different ideas for a new product handle them one at a time. That way you are more likely to achieve two successes rather than none. Make it your own personal mantra. Focus on the goal. Repeat it to yourself constantly. If you believe it you can achieve it!
