Try to practice dribbling all over the place when you can without looking to get better at it. Watching good point guards can help since they always look forward and around when they dribble.

If you’re playing the guard position, having good court vision is an absolute key to success. You should always keep your eyes moving and focus on what’s happening around you. Learn how to dribble the ball with your head up. Looking down while dribbling will mean you can’t see what’s happening on the court.

When you have a chance, take a charge. The charge lets you build a defensive stop and get control of the ball. This can throw off the opposing team and mess up their rhythm.

Varying your pace and direction keeps the offense off guard. When running towards the net, step on your front foot, and start to straighten up your body. This will make the guard think you’re slowing down, then they will straighten their body too. Use this opportunity to sprint past your opponent.

Bounce passes cause the defender to bend over to try to get the ball from you, often leaving them off balance. This is a great way to pass the ball to a teammate, allowing you to spin around your defender while they have no balance, leaving you open to take a shot.

Get your hands up when playing defense. Get your hands in their face and obstruct their vision. They might be taller or faster than you, but if you get your hands up in their face and obstruct their field of view, you have a better chance of disrupting what they are intending on doing.

When you are taking a free throw, be sure that your strong foot is out in front slightly. When your knees begin to straighten, let the ball go. Your heels should peel up off the floor as the ball leaves your hands. Use your stronger hand to follow through with the shot.
