Sometimes there is nothing we can do about a pest infestation. It does not have to be your family’s dirty secret anymore. This article was written to help you get rid of those bugs once and for all. You can also find out how you can keep them away for good.

Having mice in your home can be a real turn off, not mentioning they carry diseases. In order to exterminate mice in a family-friendly way, use disposable mouse traps. Line the mouse traps with peanut butter to attract mice. After the mouse takes the bait, the mouse trap should slam shut, and you can safely dispose.

You should regularly inspect the plumbing of your home and make sure you do not leave any traces of water, for instance under the pots you use for your plants or on your kitchen counter. Humidity can lead to a fungus infestation and leaks will provide pest with the water needed to survive.

Do not leave any food out or unsealed and make sure that you clean up any crumbs or food scraps. Bugs, especially roaches love to get into food scraps that have been left out. Put used food in a tightly sealed container or in a baggie that bugs cannot break into.

Remember that as much as your houseplants might bring life to your home, some of that life might be pests. If you suspect that they are infested with aphids, spray your houseplants regularly with a solution of soap and water. That should be enough to manage the pest problem without exposing your plants and home to insecticides.

Inspect any seeds or houseplants before you buy them and bring them home. You want to check for current signs of insects. You also want to look for disease issues that might attract insects. Never put something in your home that would attract bugs or pests in the wild outdoors.

Before you attempt to get rid of any pests, you must identify them. Not knowing what kind of pests you’re dealing with can lead to using ineffective methods or methods that make the situation worse. By properly identifying the type of pests you’re dealing with, you can develop control measures that can get rid of them.

Avoid using pesticides that you can purchase in a grocery store. These are usually extremely potent to humans, but do little to get rid of the pest problem. They also require a lot of preparation and clean-up. If you choose to use chemicals to rid your home of pests you will likely find more success using a professional.

Sometimes calling a professional exterminator is a necessity. While many do it yourself, remedies work wonderfully, infestations can reach beyond the control of your average house owner. While it may be more expensive to call in a professional or service, it is definitely worth it to effectively rid your home of pests.

If you are a pet owner it is not recommended that you use poisons that kill mice and rats. A dog or cat can easily ingest poisons that are on these rodents if they should happen to catch one. You should also avoid these poisons if you have small children. They can mistake the pellets for candy.

Try using plastic storage for storing dry foods. Many dry goods inside bags or boxes can be easily accessed by pests. Every time you buy groceries, transfer any dry goods you purchase into bins that are tightly sealed. Using plastic containers can keep food fresher and help you avoid pests.

Avoid keeping garbage in the house for long. It is common for people to want to let the trash can fill before emptying. However, when you have thrown away food and food packaging, you create an environment that draws pests. Use a lidded can and take your trash out at least once a day.

Use borax and sugar to keep ants out of your home. Get a quart jar and mix within it a cup of both sugar and borax. Punch some holes in the lid of the jar. Sprinkle your mixture around the exterior foundation of your house. Also sprinkle along inside baseboards. The sugar attracts ants, but the borax poisons them.

Check to see if the shingles in your home are in need of repair every few months or so. Bugs will tend to feast on anything that is molding or breaking down, especially wood. Try to keep your home up to date if you want to avoid a bug problem in the future.

Put screens in your windows. Cool summer breezes are nice, but the insects and bugs that can come in are not so pleasant. While it might be true that you just use the air conditioning most of the time, remember that it can break down and power does go out. Be prepared.

If you’re dealing with bugs, get lots of caulk and seal each crack inside your home. Sprays and foggers are a good first step, but they are ineffective against pests living deep within the walls of your home and other hard-to-reach places. Caulk should be used to seal any area where bugs can get in or out.

When you’re overrun by cockroaches, place Borax powder around your home, especially in the kitchen and bathroom. If you have pets or children, this may not be the best solution as they can get into this poison as well. This trick can be used for other pests as well, like ants.

Eliminating clutter gets rid of the bugs. Most homes have a lot of catch-all areas, such as book shelves, counter tops and table tops. If you are suffering from a bug infestation, remove the clutter to make you home inhospitable.

Hopefully we have provided you with some useful hints, tips, and tricks that will help you exterminate your home. You will be saving money and getting rid of any insects that may have been inhabiting your home. We all know that they are the most unwanted of unwanted guests.
