Guest Speaker – Elaine Kerr, International Synergies Our guest speaker for July is Elaine Kerr from International Synergies. Elaine leads the International Synergies NI team to deliver an Industrial Symbiosis service for businesses in Northern Ireland, providing technical consultancy in the areas of resource efficiency, water and wastewater, process improvement, waste management and recycling, and providing training in waste control and management. Elaine has been a key player in the evolution of the Industrial Symbiosis Service since its inception in 2007. Her 10 years’ experience in identifying and progressing industrial symbiosis solutions for businesses from all sectors has helped Invest Northern Ireland meet its regional economic development objectives and has ensured continuing investment in the service. Elaine will speak on “Mirroring the natural environment to reduce business costs”. This lively and interactive presentation will introduce the concept that there is no such thing as waste, only resources misplaced in time and place. Together we will look at how businesses can reduce costs and generate additional sales through applying Industrial Symbiosis and Elaine will share some practical examples from businesses in Northern Ireland. The NI Industrial Symbiosis service is the longest running service of its kind in the world and is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year. To date it has achieved over £40m in economic benefit to the companies involved and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 240ktonnes as well as diverting over 392k tonnes from disposal to landfill. Member Speaker – Rosalind Bloomfield Rosalind Bloomfield, or Ros as she is known to her friends, has been a member of The Business Network Banbridge for several years. Here she represents health and performance consultancy, Support2Perform which is owned and run by her son, Dr Jonathan Bloomfield as well as her own charitable interests. Ros is involved in international Christian Charity, Mothers Union as the Representative Member for All Ireland on their Worldwide Council. She is also a member of Drumbeg Womens Institute, who were crowned Institute of the Year a few months ago. Over the past year Ros held the role of Mayoress of Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council, alongside her husband, Mayor Brian Bloomfield. The couple have recently completed their year in office and relinquished their titles. In her member slot, Ros will tell us about the highlights of her year in office and what she learned and gained from the experience. She will also update members and visitors on the fundraising efforts over the last year for the Mayor’s Charity, Tiny Life, which has raised over £82,000 at the most recent count, with more still coming in. We look forward to hearing her plans going forward, now that her calendar of social engagements is going to be a lot less full! We hope you can join us and benefit from the wealth of experience our speakers can provide, as well as gaining value from the opportunity to network with other members and guests attending.
