Even if you don’t like someone on your team, you have to get along with everyone on your team for the sake of your team’s success. If you are found to be argumentative or a trouble starter, you are the one who is going to be kicked off the team. Play nice and get along.

If you discover a new football trick that works great, don’t overuse it. You opponent will learn your next move rendering the play ineffective if you use it often.

If you play a receiver position in football, work on the basic fundamentals to the position. Catch the ball with both of your hands, but secure it by holding it close to your body and covering it with your arms. Run towards the end zone, but also keep tacklers to your back. This helps you keep the ball and prevent a fumble.

Be smart when playing defense. Don’t try to just out-muscle the offense. Be mindful of runners who might look like they are down, only to see them blow by you. Also keep an eye out for fumbles and yell out “Ball” when they happen. This gives your fellow defenders a chance to get the ball.

Try to focus some of your exercises on increasing speed. Do jumping squats to increase the speed of your reflex muscles. Squat down and jump on a step. Stand straight up and then jump back down and into a squat. Repeat this exercise 40 times daily and gradually increase the height of the step.

Don’t panic! Football can be a little scary when you first try it. People are rushing at you, and quite often they’re bigger than you too. It’s not a comfortable feeling. But with practice, you’ll learn how to be more agile and avoid tackles. You’ll learn how to fake-out those rushing at you. It all becomes much easier. So stay calm and learn all that you can.

Unlike the masses who want nothing more than to shed excess weight, football players must bulk up. Eating a lot of food is essential, but so is choosing foods with wisdom. Add some calories to your diet but stay away from foods rich in fat. Include healthy ingredients like olive oil into many dishes you make.

Even if you suck at football at first, remember that it takes time to get good at anything. The more you practice and learn about the game, the better you will get. As long as you put the effort into getting better, it is bound to happen for you in time.

Practice the way that you expect to play. Don’t shake off practice as a necessary evil that doesn’t deserve your full effort. Chances are that’s the same effort you’ll give at game time. Instead, practice like you mean it. That effort will rub off on your teammates, and you’ll all be more likely to succeed.

The time is now to toughen yourself up. You may get the wind knocked out of you, or even slightly injured. These are times when you just have to get up and get back into the game. Serious injuries like concussions are times when you must get off the field, though.

A receiver must work to provide a target for their quarterback. The goal is for the ball to be delivered to your midsection. If you are to the quarterback’s right, place your left arm on top of your right arm. Likewise, if the ball is to the left, place the right arm atop of the left arm. This allows you to defend the ball to the best of your ability.

Check for ideal conditions before you play the game. Make sure the playing field is even and safe. Don’t play on terrains where there are noticeable dips in the field. Pay attention to the weather and dress appropriately, remembering to drink plenty of water if it is a hot day. If you take care of these things before you hit the field, you will be free to concentrate on the game itself.

There may be times when it is more effective to run the ball even though there are receivers open. Learning to know when to change a play is important for any quarterback. If you are running a passing play and spot an opening, power run up the opening to gain the maximum yardage.

Dedicate yourself to success. Dedicate yourself to your team. Dedicate yourself to your schedule and regimen, too. The more dedicated you are when it comes to football, the greater your success will be. Passion is nothing if you aren’t dedicated to doing all you can to better your game as well.

Take a break at least a day a week from football. You need some time to focus on other things in life to play the game well when you are on the field. Enjoy leisure time with your friends and family to keep a well-balance life.

Your playbook is your best friend. Take the time memorize each play and practice each play often. By knowing each play in your playbook, you can call a little used play when the defense keeps shutting you down. Each player should know every play in your playbook for the best results.

Always watch the hips of the receiver to figure out where he is going. If you can master anticipating the movements of the receiver, you can not only tackle him, but actually get the ball before he does. If you can get between him and the ball, go for it!

Success doesn’t just come to you. He worked hard, built stamina, learned the rules of football and used the best strategies he could find. He did a lot of homework about football to get to where he did, so do like him and keep reading all you can about the sport.

A good piece of advice if you’re a runningback or a wide receiver in football is to learn to give into a tackle and to not resist it. By this I mean it’s important not to get too tense when you’re about to get tackled because it may result in an injury.
