Tips To Make You A Great Basketball Player

2019-09-04 Sports Comment 2

There are many sports which are popular today, but not all are as fun to play as basketball. It requires little in the way of equipment, so anyone of any means can start playing right away. If you want to learn how to become a better player, read the text below.

Perfect your free throw. These shots may seem easy, but they can be quite difficult. Practice frequently using these techniques. Start with the ball ahead of your face. There may be a number of distractions so you need to focus on your goal. Shoot on the same path you saw in your mind’s eye.

Every shot should have an arc. The ball should arc at the highest point, then began descending toward the goal. This arc helps keep the ball on course. Learn how to consistently shoot using the same arc for best results. As you practice, you will learn what works best for you.

To improve your basketball dribbling skills, set cones out on the court and practice dribbling in and out of the cones. Go from one end of the court to the other at different speeds to enhance your ball control. After you have been up and down the court several times, practice stopping and shooting from various positions.

Practice your passes and catches frequently. Practice catching errant throws along with perfect passes. During the game, not all passes will go where they’re intended. Make sure that your teammates also practice this type of pass with you.

Try yoga to improve your basketball game. You might not want to tell your teammates about it, since some of them are going to likely laugh. However, the increased flexibility and agility you get helps prevent injuries or at least leaves able to get back up quicker when you get knocked down. Don’t laugh; Kareem Abdul-Jabaar used it to extend his NBA career.

If you want to improve your jump shot, try shooting free throws blindfolded or with your eyes closed. Your free throw percentage ought to be pretty good before you try this. However, once it is, you can use this technique to really get down a fluid and instinctive shooting motion with your arms and body. Just make sure to do this alone in a gym, as to not errantly hurt anyone or break a window.

Use two hands when trying to make shots. Have both thumbs on the ball so that they are almost touching. Put the ball over your head but be sure you are able to see what you are aiming for. When you shoot, aim for the backboard or give it a backspin by rolling your hands down while shooting.

When working out, focus on building your core strength and perfecting your footwork. A strong core allows you to be more balanced during games. You must work out your hip, back and abdomen muscles. You will improve your speed and footwork if you jump rope like boxers do.

As you attempt to keep up your skills in the off-season, make sure you have fun with your fitness routine. Mix things up and include workouts that focus on endurance, strength and basic basketball skills. When the new season rolls around, you will feel sharp and be ready to go!

To give yourself a big advantage in any game of basketball, study the moves of your opponents. Players often have certain moves that they repeat or a certain approach that they favor. If you can make a plan to disarm their favorite move or approach, you can often outplay them.

When you’re playing basketball, make sure that you dribble with your head up. If you feel that you have to look down every time you dribble, then you need more practice. Try to practice dribbling all over the place when you can without looking to get better at it. Watching good point guards can help since they always look forward and around when they dribble.

Always share with your teammates. When someone begins to guard you, start looking for someone to pass to and stop dribbling. If you don’t, your teammates won’t bother trying to find an open spot as they will know that you are a ball hog who doesn’t pass when the time is right.

Perform drills where you attempt to get the ball up full-court in 5 dribbles or less. This may be difficult in the beginning, but if you manage it, you’ll be a force to be reckoned with. It can mean easier lay-ups when dealing with fast breaks and it can help your teammates for just a moment.

Can you see well? This will enable you to make good shots as well as catching passes that come your way. You want to be sure that your peripheral vision is at its best. Tunnel vision makes it difficult to play effectively, so try to view the entire court and all players.

Changing pace can help you keep the offense guessing. When running in the direction of the net, straighten up while planting the front foot. Your guard will do the same, thinking you plan to stop. As hes does, plow forward and run by him.

To set an effective screen, make sure that your feet are slightly wider apart than your shoulders and your arms are crossed on your chest. The wider feet give you balance, and the crossed arms take away the temptation to reach out and bump the player as he goes by — which is a foul.

Try to place the air valve of the ball in the middle of your hand when you are taking a shot. This is the center of the ball and therefore the perfect center for your shot. If you can do this, you will find you have better control of the ball.

While hockey means buying a ton of expensive equipment, and football can lead to concussions, basketball is a safe game to play which doesn’t cost a ton. As long as you keep reading articles like this one, you’ll become better and better. Enjoy this game every day to bring you exercise and fun!

There is a small amount of time when the ball leaves your hand, hits the floor and comes back to your hand on the dribble. Use this time wisely. This is a great opportunity to read the defense, fake out your opponent or see where your other teammates are at so they can score.

Always know where your feet are and what they are doing. Stepping even a toe on the baseline with the ball in your hands means you are out of bounds. Taking too many steps without dribbling means a walking call and another turnover situation. Also, moving either foot when trying to set a screen, pick or take a charge results in a foul call.
