If the kicker is having problems, dedicate some private practice time with them to assist them with their problems.

A great tip if you’re a runningback or even a receiver, is to run right off the back of a lineman. Your linemen are there for a reason. They’re trying to block a certain player in order to open up a hole for you. Take advantage of that by sticking to them like glue, making the hole wider.

A great way to keep yourself in top form for playing football is to run at least 3 miles a day. This is an excellent exercise for your cardiovascular system. When you are near the end of your run, find a hill to run up and down before finishing. This will help increase your strength and play at your best longer.

Try learning how to start a football game properly. The game should start with a coin toss. The team that wins the toss then gets to decide the end of the field they’d like to defend for the first half, or if they’d like to receive the ball. One team will kick the ball to the other. The kickoff will occur at the start of each half and after each score.

Get into tip top shape if you are considering playing football. This is one physically challenging sport. If you are out of shape, you’ll soon be left in the dust of both your opposition and your teammates. If you want to be considered an essential member of the team, approach your physical fitness like a pro would.

Shuttle runs are a great way to improve stamina, stopping abilities and endurance. Start at a goal line and then run ten yards. Tap the line. Reverse direction and run back towards the goal line doing the same thing. Do this every day to your maximum physical capacity and record your results so you can note improvements over time.

Try to score with the fair-catch kick. If the opposing team catches a punt, they can attempt a field goal with a free kick. A placekicker attempts to make a field goal by kicking a ball that is held in place by the holder. The resulting points count like a field goal, giving your team an extra three points. That down is not timed.

Be sure to drink lots of water or a sports drink as you play. Being in the hot and heavy equipment you have to wear to play football safely will leave you sweating buckets. Replace that water by drinking so that you don’t end up with a cramp or an injury.

If you aren’t mentally in the game, don’t play. Let your coach know if you are not feeling well because of a loss, a fight, a break up, a bad grade or anything else which might be getting you down. He can talk you out of it, or allow someone else to play for you.

If you are just getting started in football training, or are returning after a period of abstinence, stick with exercises that strengthen a wide variety of muscles at the same time. This will give you the overall body strength you need to later progress into isolation exercises for specific strengths.

Many coaches forget that football is a game and not life. While they are paid to know everything there is to know about football, the players are not. The players are in it for fun. There are many life lessons that can be learned from playing football, but if the players are not enjoying the game, these lessons cannot be taught.

Learn the league rules for shoes. Cleats may be required for some and not allowed for others. Check to learn if you need shoes that have detachable or non- detachable cleats. Also, learn if there is a size limit for the cleats. You do not want to buy shoes and not be allowed to wear them.

Be aware of your actual skills and realistic levels of playing, so that you can make a realistic decision about how to play football. When you play to high of a level, you are likely to make mistakes. Likewise, playing with low expectations will keep you from increasing your skill levels.

Flexibility is just as important to a football player as body mass and speed. Don’t limit stretching to the few minutes prior to practice or games. Instead, make stretching an integral part of everyday activities. Focus on your back, hamstrings, glutes and hips. Even if you only have five minutes, take advantage of them.
