No matter how you like your wine, you understand what a great drink it is. Would you like to learn more? This piece will provide you with great wine tips, so keep reading.

Avoid over chilling white wines. Many wine drinkers will buy a bottle of their favorite white and return home to pop it in the fridge. While chilling whites is important, too much cold will diminish flavors in the wine; sometimes the most important ones. Target a temperature around 60 degrees up to 68 degrees to achieve the prime flavor.

Keep a wine journal. Write down the names of wines that you taste and what you think of them. Over time, this will develop into a great resource for you. It is also nice to look back and see where you came from and what direction you are headed in when it comes to your wine preferences.

Build a relationship with the salesperson or owner of the wine store. Don’t be afraid of getting recommendations from them. While you may get some that aren’t fantastic, you can usually find some that are passionate about wine. They can also personally recommend certain kinds. Getting familiar with these people can also help them get to know your preferences.

A good tip if you’re interested in learning more about wines is to simply do your homework on them. Do as much reading as you can about wines and the industry, and before you know it, you’ll be the most knowledgeable person about wines among all of your friends.

Having a sniff at the cork from the wine bottle is not the best way to determine whether or not your wine is spoiled. While this may work in some cases, there are times when a cork smells musty and the wine is perfectly fine. Tasting it is the only way to know for sure.

No two stores are exactly the same, so when you are hunting for that perfect wine, know what you that perfect wine is and know what the stores are serving. Reading the latest reviews and offerings from the local selections helps give you a better feel for what lies within their cellar. Knowing what the store offers will help narrow down the selection process to a few names that work!

Take the advice of wine critics with a grain of salt since you may have entirely different tastes than they do. Many people rely on critics to give them advice on what wines to select, but they end up disappointed. Only do this if you are sure that you and the critic have very similar palates.

Explore what tastes good when pairing wine with a meal. Different combinations can provide interesting variety. You can just go with the tried and true favorites, but it is much more exciting to discover your own unique pairings.

Varietal wines are all born from one type of grape. Pinot Noir and Syrah are examples of this. The wine has to be 90% juice from a single varietal. Many wineries will introduce a different grape to make their wine taste more unique.

If you have decided to serve white wine at your next gathering, make sure you only store it in the fridge a few hours before serving time. Storing the white wine in the fridge too long (a few days) can affect the way your wine tastes as well as the aroma.

Look for bottles of wine that have a screwcap rather than a cork. Since cork has imperfections in it, it may affect the taste of the wine. While this doesn’t happen often, it is a possibility. Screwcaps are becoming more popular and are less likely to affect the wine in any way.

The Internet has once again come through to make the job easier and buying wine will never be the same again. You can now turn on your computers and shop the local and distant venues without leaving the home. This is perfect for when you have a selection in mind or don’t want to make the trip.

If you are paying top dollar for your meal, you may feel the need to order the cheapest wine on the menu. However, many waiters know that customers will not want to look cheap by getting whatever wine is cheapest. Often times, they’ll simply recommend the wine that is next to cheapest. Don’t avoid the cheapest because of price. It could actually be a good choice.

The first time you taste a wine, sip it and breathe in air over top of it in your mouth. That’s right, you’ve got to slurp it! Let the wine swirl throughout the mouth so that you detect bitter, sweet, salty and acidic notes. As you inhale, you will enjoy the scent of the complex flavors.

If you are bringing a bottle of wine as a gift, but you don’t have a lot to spend, buy a bottle from a region that is not very well known. Most people that drink wine often know the pricing associated with major regions. However, if you think outside the box, you can get a great bottle at a price that is in your budget, and you don’t have to worry about your host knowing how much you spent.

If possible, make an effort to go out and visit wine country at least once a year. There really is no substitute for visiting a vineyard and drinking a glass of wine in its natural element. You’d be surprised how much better the wine will taste and it will also allow you to see how the wine is made.

Store your wine at the right temperature. If you store it in either a too cool or too warm environment, you are affecting its ability to age properly. If you have the means, you should store your wine at fifty-five degrees Fahrenheit. It is not recommended that you keep a large collection if you cannot do this diligently.

It’s important to understand the intricacies of wine to appreciate it. You will be able to drink what you like and impress guests. Use what you’ve learned here in this article, and go enjoy some wine with your friends.

Never let someone else’s opinion affect your wine taste. If you like a wine, it must be a good wine. That is your rule of thumb. Your palate is your own and will be best served with wines that you find appealing. The up side to your friends not liking that particular wine: more for you.

Go to wine tastings! These are fun events that help you step outside the box when it comes to your wine preference. You can even make it a social event.
